Hotel Reservations Running Out for the 2015 AGM

214The Steering Committee of the 2015 AGM would like to share information about the conference hotel with those of you who may be planning to attend. We recently learned that the Galt House will be used as the headquarters of Louisville’s Iron Man Competition, occurring at the same time as the AGM.  The triathlon has been held during the summer every year, but the organizers decided this past year to move it to October 2015.

While it is not JASNA’s practice to make announcements regarding reservations, you should be aware that competition for rooms at the Galt House is very likely. Remember that once our room block is full, the Galt House is not required to honor JASNA’s reduced rate for additional rooms outside the block. Also, there may not be as many additional rooms available to our members due to the influx of triathlon attendees.

You may use this link to learn more about the conference hotel and making reservations. Please read the tips and directions carefully before reserving a room.

In Memoriam: Virginia Lehr

Metropolitan St. Louis Region founding member Shirley Bassett reports that Virginia Lehr, one of our early members, passed away in her sleep Jan. 7. Many longtime region members will remember Virginia and her love of Austen.

Virginia was 93 at the time of her death. We offer our condolences to her family.

The following is Virginia’s obituary as it appeared recently in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Virginia “Jeannie” Margaret Lehr
July 6, 1921–Jan. 7, 2015

Virginia “Jeannie” Margaret Lehr died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 7, 2015. Born on July 6, 1921, Virginia spent many years working in the civil-service field. She was the loving aunt of Marjorie Barton of Ireland, who survives her. Jeanie was predeceased by her father, Philip Lehr, her mother, Margaret Lehr (nee Stehl), a brother, Virgil, and a sister, JoAnn Lehr Barton. She also leaves her beloved Yorkie, Daisy.

Jeannie had been living at Laclede Groves Senior Services Community, where her soft, gentle voice and friendly smile will be missed by many residents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missouri Botanical Gardens.

Funeral service: Friday, January 9, 10:30 a.m. at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa. Interment will be at Memorial Park.
