Formerly owned by Jane Austen’s brother, Edward Austen Knight, and well known to Jane herself, Chawton House now fosters research and understanding of early women writers, restoring them to their rightful place in the history of English literature and enabling them to speak directly to–and inspire–future generations.
Dr. Kim Simpson, Deputy Director of Chawton House, will present a history of the house and its Austen connections; give a tour of the gardens; and share a few objects from the exhibition Quills & Characters, as well as treasures from Chawton House Library.
This live virtual event is limited to 100 participants and will be hosted on Chawton House’s Zoom account. JASNA St. Louis members have priority registration through March 1; after that, the registration link will be shared with nearby JASNA regions.
