Why are we still interested in Jane Austen, 200 years later?  How do people in the 20th and 21st century use the idea of Jane Austen, and to what end?  What makes Jane Austen a cult classic?  In this introductory course, we will explore the world of Jane Austen and the wide array of 20th/21st-century adaptations of her works.  We analyze Austen’s original literary texts, and will then compare, contrast, and evaluate film, tv, and video adaptations, as well as literary, game, and other adaptations.  Some highlights of the course will include a dark tale about manipulative and seductive Lady Susan; a fun, gothic parody Northanger Abbey; and a classic love story, Pride and PrejudiceCost: $300 ($150 for 60 years of age of older)
