Annual Jane Austen Birthday Luncheon
“A Partial Knowledge of Circumstances” Chapter XIII: Christmas scenes in Emma
Our December program will feature a readers theatre presentation of “A Partial Knowledge of Circumstances,” a dramatization of Chapter 13 of Emma. Its five lively scenes lead up to the Christmas Eve dinner party to be held at the Westons’ home. Actors from our group will portray the characters of Emma Woodhouse, Mr. Woodhouse, Harriet Smith, Mr. Elton, and Mr. John Knightly. A narrator will set the scene. Almost all the dialogue comes straight from the masterful pen of Jane Austen.
Bettye Dew is a retired editor and teacher. A life member of JASNA, she joined JASNA—St. Louis in 1980 and served as program chair for the 1984 JASNA AGM (Annual General Meeting), held here in St. Louis. She and Harriett Gray designed and edited the first editions of “JASNA News.” Dew has served the Metropolitan St. Louis Region of JASNA in many capacities, including program chair and hostess.
